Coming this Fall
Coming this Fall
On the day that Easton mustered out of the service he was given three things. A letter thanking him for his service to a grateful nation, a coach class ticket home, and a letter informing him of the job that was waiting for him at home. The first two meant little to him but the third was the only reason Easton had joined up. When he had graduated high school, Easton’s parents had sat him down to go over his options. With unemployment, down to historic lows between sixty-five and seventy percent and all the opportunities that came with that. Not a lot of options for people seeking jobs with only a high school diploma. The guaranteed way was to take the government up on their promise. A promise that guaranteed any person who served a full term a job on completion. That was the route that Easton took and how he came to be wading around in waste deep polluted water for a living on what was at one time ground level.
